Tumor-derived antioxidants suppress immunity by depriving T cells of reactive oxygen species

Science

Cancer cells may evade immune attack by releasing an antioxidant protein (PRDX1) that deprives T cells of the reactive oxygen species required for activation. Eliminating tumor-derived PRDX1 increased immune activity and restricted tumor growth, sensitizing resistant models to anti–PD-1 and anti–CTLA-4 checkpoint blockade.
