背景

Hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) is a ~64 kDa protein. Attaches the virus to alpha-2,3-linked sialic acid-containing cell receptors and thereby initiating infection. Binding of HN protein to the receptor induces a conformational change that allows the F protein to trigger virion/cell membranes fusion. Binds to the glycan motifs sialyl Lewis (SLe) and GM2 ganglioside (GM2-glycan).
