背景

Matrix protein is a ~37 kDa protein. The M protein has a crucial role in virus assembly and interacts with the RNP complex as well as with the viral membrane. Associates with phosphatidylserine (PS) and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) at the plasma membrane. Interaction with PIP2 triggers matrix protein lattice polymerization. Matrix proteins induce host membrane deformation and curvature necessary for virion assembly/budding.
