This is the HM79b clone, a mouse IgG2a monoclonal antibody raised against mouse CD79b (the B-cell antigen receptor component Ig-beta, UniProt P15530). Because it is generated in mouse and recognises a mouse target, it is well suited to syngeneic in-vivo work in immunocompetent mice, where cross-species antibody immunogenicity is minimised, as well as to ex-vivo functional and flow-cytometry studies of B-cell receptor biology. HM79b is a widely used reagent for identifying and manipulating B lineage cells and for probing BCR signalling. Validated applications include ELISA, flow cytometry, neutralization, and functional assays, making it flexible across both characterisation and mechanistic experiments. This preparation is supplied low-endotoxin and in-vivo-ready, and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support dosing across cohorts and repeat-injection regimens. It is provided for research use only (RUO). Low endotoxin load reduces the risk of confounding innate immune activation, an important consideration when interpreting immune readouts in living animals. CD79b (Ig-beta, B29) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that pairs with CD79a (Ig-alpha) to form the CD79a/CD79b heterodimer, the essential signalling module of the B-cell antigen receptor (BCR) complex. While membrane immunoglobulin recognises antigen, it has only a short cytoplasmic tail; CD79a and CD79b carry the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motifs (ITAMs) that transduce BCR engagement into intracellular signals. Upon antigen binding, ITAM tyrosines are phosphorylated by Src-family kinases, recruiting Syk and nucleating the downstream cascade that drives B-cell activation, proliferation, and differentiation. CD79b is also required for BCR surface assembly and export, and thus for normal B-cell development and survival. Expression is largely restricted to the B lineage, spanning pre-B through mature B cells, which makes CD79b a highly B-cell-selective marker and an attractive handle for targeting B cells.
